A Sparkling Mediterranean Garden with Aloe, Aeonium and Palms

Plant Combinations, Spring Borders, Summer Borders, Fall Borders, Winter Borders

Garden ideas, Mediterranean plants, Water wise garden, Low maintenance garden, aeonium Schwarzkopf , Aloe principis, Aloidendron Hercules, Butia capitata

Quite colorful, this desert garden is low maintenance and requires little water to thrive. The plants are drought tolerant and are laid out in a tapestry of striking colors, shapes and textures. Framed by the lush blue-green to almost whitish silver foliage of Butia capitata (Pindo Palm), we can admire with delight the brilliant, scarlet to orange flower spikes of Aloe x principis. They contrast nicely with the dark burgundy rosettes of Aeonium ‘Zwartkop’. Competing for attention, Aloe ‘Hercules’, a fast-growing, evergreen tree-like aloe reveals its smooth trunk crowned with explosions of fleshy, broad, blue-green leaves.

Looking good all year-round, most of these plants change color over the seasons for a renewed appeal.
