Making the most out of a small backyard patio space. This amazing back patio has it all: several lounge areas, a pool, a fire pit, an outdoor kitchen and a dining area, and even a bench on which to take an afternoon nap - all this in a 24'x48' space (7.2 x 14.4 m). This miracle was accomplished by Prideaux Design, who smartly divided up the patio into "rooms", placing the pool in the center, the lounge area on one side of it, and the kitchen / dining area on the other side. Each area is about 12'x12'.
Stacked stone veneer was used to line the outside walls of the pool and a clay Saltillo tile, slightly darker than terracotta, for the floor. Greenery was introduced in the form of native and water wise plants such as the Agave Weberi or the Slipper Plant (Pedilanthus Macrocarpus). The sleek and modern outdoor furniture is from Brown Jordan's Fusion Collection. Made of woven rattan, they are covered in a durable, bronze finish that is made to withstand all sorts of weather conditions.
The pool is actually a "spool" — a small pool and a large spa combined into one. It can be kept cool for swimming, or warmed up to use with jets on colder nights. Its walls are used to frame the 2 other outdoor spaces of this patio: the lounge space and the cooking / dining space.
Bright and colorful tiles from Dunis Studios were used to decorate the pool's waterfall as well as the outdoor cooking station.
The same palette of vivid colors was used for the outdoor cushions, bench and pillows or the pots and planters.
How enjoyable it must be to relax on one of these lounge chairs in the shade of this lime tree after a swim!
