Araucaria

Noted for their distinctive silhouettes, Araucaria are evergreen coniferous trees from the Southern Hemisphere, with evenly spread tiers of stiff, whorled branches. Most bear closely overlapping, spirally arranged leaves that may be needle-like, triangular or scale-like. It is believed that the long necks of sauropod dinosaurs may have evolved specifically to browse the foliage of the typically very tall Araucaria trees. Impressive focal points in the landscape, they are not trees to sit under – as they bear enormous cones, up to 10 pounds (5 kg)! They thrive in containers for several years.

Araucaria, Norfolk Island Pine, House Pine, Araucaria heterophylla, Monkey Puzzle, Money Puzzle Tree, Chile Pine, Araucaria araucana
