Rosa - Floribunda Rose

Floribunda roses, as their Latin name implies, are abundant bloomers. They are a modern class of roses, developed in the 20th century from crosses between Hybrid Teas and Polyanthas. They were bred to combine the lavish bloom clusters of Polyanthas with the diverse colors and repeat flowering characteristics of Hybrid Teas.

Size: With their vigorous, bushy growth habit, Floribundas generally reach heights between 2 and 3 feet (0.6 to 0.9 meters), though some can reach up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall. Their width usually ranges from 2 to 4 feet (0.6 to 1.2 meters), making them a mid-sized rose perfect for borders and mixed beds.

Flowers: The flowers of Floribunda roses truly set them apart. Blooms are often smaller than those of their Hybrid Tea parents, but they appear in clusters that can cover the plant from late spring until the first frost. Flower colors span the entire spectrum, with countless hues and bi-colors available.

Hardiness: Floribunda roses are hardy in USDA zones 5-9, and many varieties offer improved disease resistance compared to their Hybrid Tea counterparts. Regular watering is necessary, especially in dry periods.

Uses: They’re frequently used for their continuous color in landscape borders, hedges, or any spot where a mass of color is desired. Their abundant flowers also attract pollinators, providing an extra ecological benefit.

The typical Floribunda is hardy, easy to care for, and covered in blooms, making it a favorite for both novice and experienced gardeners.
