Sisyrinchium

Native to North or South America, Sisyrinchium is a large group of annuals and perennials forming clumps of stiff, upright, sword-shaped leaves held in a fan shape. Some are evergreen, while many others — especially in colder areas — die back to the ground in winter. In spring or summer, small, star-shaped flowers adorned with yellow centers appear on spikes at or just above the foliage. Easy to grow, they naturalize readily, so are best used in informal areas, such as cottage gardens, rock gardens and woodland gardens. Because of their small stature, they also work well at the front of borders or even as edging plants along paths.
