An exquisite variegated selection of Fox Tail Agave, Agave attenuata ‘Ray of Light’ is an evergreen succulent perennial which produces elegant rosettes of wide, flexible, pale green leaves, adorned with a fine white streak running the length of each leaf margin. Emerging from a tight center, the soft, pliable leaves arch gracefully back. Each individual rosette may reach 4 ft. across (120 cm) and crowns a stout, smooth gray stems that can rise up to 4 ft. tall. Mature plants send up a spectacular flowering stalk, up to 10 ft. tall (300 cm), that reflexes back towards the ground before arching up again, resembling a fox tail. It bears pale greenish yellow flowers which will give way to seed pods and a profusion of new plantlets. This desirable hybrid Agave makes a statuesque container plant and a dramatic focal point in the garden.

  • Grows up to 4-5 ft. tall (120-150 cm) and 6-8 ft. wide (180-240 cm).
  • Easily grown in slightly acidic, sandy or gravelly, moist or dry, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerates part shade, particularly in hot desert gardens where some shade will prevent scorching of the foliage and keep the green inset of each leaf as dark as possible. Keep in a frost-free area in winter and put it out on the patio or balcony in summer. Irrigate little or regularly for more vigor. Drought tolerant.
  • Great for beds and borders, city gardens, coastal gardens, rock gardens, succulent gardens or Mediterranean gardens. Ideal as an accent plant in sunny borders or in decorative containers.
  • Deer resistant
  • Virtually disease free. Watch for slugs and snails.
