Incredibly hardy and eye-catching, Bergenia ‘Bressingham Ruby’ is a compact clump-forming evergreen perennial noted for its outstanding foliage and bright magenta flowers. Borne on short stems in early spring, erect clusters of rosy-red, bell-shaped flowers rise above a most interesting foliage of leathery, shiny, rounded leaves. Deep green in summer, the large leaves change to rich maroon-red in winter, providing year-round interest. Low maintenance, Bergenia ‘Bressingham Ruby’ looks stunning in mass plantings or as an edging plant along paths and walkways.

  • Grows up to 12-14 in. tall (30-35 cm) and 18-24 in. wide (45-60 cm).
  • Easily grown in humus-rich, moist, well-drained soils in sun or part shade. Tolerates a wide range of soil conditions, including poor soils, but dislikes hot, dry conditions.
  • Undemanding and virtually disease-free, this Bergenia is a welcomed addition to beds and borders, banks and slopes, underplanting of roses and shrubs, cottage gardens, coastal gardens, or city gardens. Effective as a groundcover or edging paths and walkways.
  • Deer and rabbit resistant, salt tolerant.
  • Remove faded flower spikes.
  • Propagate by division or root rhizomes sections in fall or spring
