Native to the Mediterranean region, award-winning Convolvulus tricolor ‘Blue Ensign’ (Dwarf Morning Glory) is a particularly attractive annual or short-lived perennial (USDA zones 9-11). It bears profuse flared trumpets, 2 in. across (5 cm), with a golden-yellow center ringed in white and surrounded by royal blue petals. Blooming in succession for weeks from early summer into fall, the flowers remain open one day, and hummingbirds and butterflies will attentively visit them. Convolvulus tricolor is a low-growing bushy plant that rises on branching stems clad with narrow, lance-shaped, mid-green leaves.

  • Awarded the prestigious Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society
  • Grows up to 6 in. tall (15 cm) and 12-18 in. wide (30-45 cm).
  • Easily grown in average, medium moisturewell-drained soils, with occasional watering in full sun. Some light afternoon shade is welcomed in hot summer areas. Heat and drought tolerance once established.
  • Great for beds and borders, rock gardens, groundcovers, or containers. Great for edging too.
  • Virtually disease and pest free, but watch for aphids and spider mites.
  • Easily grown from seed sown indoors 4-6 weeks before the last spring frost date or from seed sown directly in the garden several days prior to the last frost date.
