One of the hardiest Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus rubida (Candlebark) is a medium to large evergreen tree of rounded to spreading habit, adorned with smooth white bark, flaking off in ribbons, burgundy, cinnamon-brown, with pink to salmon hues. Rich with a sweet fragrance, the aromatic foliage is rounded, glaucous blue-gray when juvenile, lance-shaped, long and blue-green when adult. Sought after for honey production, clusters of 3 white fluffy flowers are borne amongst the foliage in summer. A medium to fast grower, this Eucalyptus is a beautiful ornamental tree. It is good for shade, windbreak, hedge, or screen. The stems with juvenile leaves are wonderful in flower arrangements. Tolerant to heavy frosts and snows and adaptable to most well-drained soils.

  • Grows up to 30-100 ft. tall (9-30 m) and 30-50 ft. wide (9-15 m).
  • Performs best in full sun in average to moderately fertile, dry to moist, well-drained soil. Drought tolerant.
  • Easy to grow, easy to care for. Deer resistant
  • Watch for eucalyptus sucker, silver leaf and oedema.
  • Propagate by seed.
