Hypericum x moserianum 'Tricolor', St. John's Wort 'Tricolor', Evergreen Shrub, yellow flowers, Variegated foliage, Variegated shrub, Hypericum, St John's Wort

A popular cultivar, Hypericum x moserianum ‘Tricolor’ (St. John’s Wort) is a small, spreading, semi-evergreen shrub boasting a ravishing variegated foliage. Its red arching stems are clothed in ovate, green, pink, and cream leaves. When not in bloom, this shrub is a pleasure thanks to its brightly colored foliage. Blooming from mid-summer to early fall, showy cup-shaped, golden-yellow flowers, 1.5 in. across (4 cm), adorned with a prominent tuft of golden stamens are on display, adding even more color. This deer-resistant little shrub is perfect for borders or rock gardens.

  • Grows up to 12-18 in. tall (30-45 cm) and 18-36 in. wide (45-90 cm) in cool climates but can reach 3 ft. in height and spread (90 cm) in warmer climates.
  • A full sun to part shade lover, this plant is easily grown in medium moisture, well-drained soils. Tolerates a wide range of soils but thrives on sandy soils in full sun. Protect from cold, drying winds.
  • Low maintenance, this plant is also generally pest and disease free. Deer resistant.
  • Perfect as a specimen or massed in borders, city gardens, cottage gardens, rock gardens, or containers.
  • Propagate by semi-hardwood cuttings
