Incredibly ornamental, Muhlenbergia capillaris (Pink Muhly Grass) is a clump-forming, warm-season, perennial grass forming surreal clouds of vibrant pink to pinkish-red flower panicles from early to late fall. Resembling cotton candy, the large, airy, open inflorescences, half as long as the entire plant, float gracefully above the dark green, basal foliage of finely textured leaves. They hold their terrific color for weeks before gradually fading to light tan. Pink Muhly remains attractive in winter and creates a stunning floral in the late-season garden when planted in groups or sweeps. Ideal for hot and dry climates.

  • Grows up to 3 ft. tall and wide (90 cm).
  • Thrives in full sun or light shade in sandy or rocky, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils. This plant is tolerant to heat, humidity, poor soils, salt, and drought. Deer resistant too!
  • Glistening in the sun, Pink Muhly Grass is a graceful addition to beds and borders, rock gardens, coastal gardens, and cottage gardens. This is also an excellent choice for prairies and meadows.
  • Propagate by seed or division in spring
  • Native to western-central United States
