Vitis labrusca ‘Niagara’ (Fox Grape)

Highly popular, Vitis labrusca ‘Niagara’ (Fox Grape) is a vigorous grape variety boasting large clusters of greenish-white, seedless grapes in late summer and early fall. Firm and sweet, the grapes are juicy, sweet with a tangy flavor. ‘Niagara’ is considered to be a good grape for sweet white wines, fresh table grapes, jams, juices or jellies. A deciduous shrub with large, three-lobed green leaves, ‘Niagara’ is self-pollinating and is a cross between Cassady and Concord grapes. It can produce fruit for up to 20 years. • Grows up to 15-20 ft. tall and wide (450-600 cm) unless pruned shorter.
• Thrives in full sun in well-drained soils. Tolerates a wide range of soil conditions, including sand or clay, but good drainage is essential. Best sited in a location sheltered from winter winds (preferably a sunny south-facing slope) and well removed from frost pockets. Needs good air circulation.
• Grape vines require sturdy support for their twining stems such as pergolas, walls or fences. Perfect in cottage gardens or Mediterranean gardens.
• May be affected by powdery mildew and botrytis
