Abies koreana 'Silberperle' (Korean Fir) is a miniature, evergreen conifer of globose habit when young, becoming a small squat conical tree over time. Its compact branches are adorned with short, slightly twisted, deep green needles exposing their silvery undersides, creating a lovely bi-color effect. The resin-covered buds, which resemble silver pearls, are also attractive. Slow-growing, 2-3 in. per year (5-7 cm), this desirable Korean Fir is an excellent choice for small gardens, containers, or rockeries.

  • Grows up to 18-24 in. high (45-60 cm) and 18 in. wide (45 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun in rich, slightly acidic, moist, well-drained soils. More tolerant of heat and humidity than most firs but performs best in cooler climates.
  • Virtually disease free. Watch for aphids and adelgids. Easy to grow, easy to care for, and rarely browsed by deer.
  • No pruning is required.
  • Abies koreana is native to the higher mountains of South Korea.
