Achillea millefolium New Vintage Red (Yarrow) is a spreading perennial boasting a profusion of brilliant red flower clusters adorned with cream centers from early summer to early autumn. Borne on upright, branching stems, the bold blossoms keep their color longer into the summer and re-flower very well for an Achillea. Attractive to bees and butterflies, they float above the gray-green, fern-like foliage. Easy care, drought and heat tolerant, deer and rabbit resistant, this eye-catching yarrow is perfect for hot, dry, and sunny borders, outstanding in containers, and excellent for cutting.

  • Grows up to 12-14 in. tall (30-35 cm) and 10-12 in. wide (25-30 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils. Light shade is tolerated, but the best coloring and flowering are obtained in full sun. Drought tolerant once established.
  • A vital ingredient of beds and borders, city gardens, cottage gardens, or patio containers. Achillea is also valued for the excellent quality of its cut flowers, whether in bouquets or dried floral arrangements.
  • No serious pest or disease issues. Keep an eye out for aphids, and powdery mildew. Deer and rabbit resistant.
  • Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering. Trim back hard after the first flush of bloom, to maintain a compact habit.
  • Propagate by division in spring.
  • Achillea millefolium species is native to Europe, Western Asia, and North America.
  • Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
  • Achillea, commonly known as Yarrow, belongs to the Asteraceae family, which also includes asters, chrysanthemums, and sunflowers. The genus was named after Achilles, the hero of the Trojan Wars in Greek mythology, who used the plant to stop the bleeding and heal the wounds of his soldiers. Brightening the garden throughout the summer, this perennial plant is versatile, easy to propagate, and available in a wide range of sizes and colors.
