Allium senescens ‘Pink Planet’ (Ornamental Allium) is a semi-sterile bulbous perennial forming a compact clump of elegantly twisting, bluish-green leaves. Blooming for about 4 weeks in late summer to early fall, a profusion of large, rounded umbels, 2-3 in. across (5-7 cm), tightly packed with silver-pink flowers are borne atop leafless stems just above the attractive foliage. The flowers are both long-lasting and excellent as cut flowers. A charming addition to the rock garden or the front of the water-wise border.

  • Grows up to 8-18 in. tall (20-45 cm) and 15-18 in. wide (37-45 cm).
  • Thrives in fertile, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Best in full sun, but appreciates some afternoon shade in hot summer climates. This Allium is drought tolerant.
  • Lovely in beds and borders, city gardens, cottage gardens, rock gardens, and containers. To achieve an impressive visual effect, plant in clusters.
  • Known for attracting bees, butterflies, moths, and other pollinators, but deer ignore it.
  • No serious pest or disease issues. Keep an eye out for slugs and snails, onion white rot, and downy mildew.
  • Allium senescens is native to Europe, and northern Asia.
