Allium senescens 'Pink Planet' (Ornamental Allium)

Pink Planet Allium, Pink Planet Ornamental Onion

Allium senescens 'Pink Planet' (Ornamental Allium) is a semi-sterile bulbous perennial forming a compact clump of elegantly twisting, bluish-green leaves. Blooming for about 4 weeks in late summer to early fall, a profusion of large, rounded umbels, 2-3 in. across (5-7 cm), tightly packed with silver-pink flowers are borne atop leafless stems just above the attractive foliage. The flowers are both long lasting and excellent as cut flowers. A charming addition to the rock garden or the front of the water-wise border.

  • Grows up to 8-18 in. tall (20-45 cm) and 15-18 in. wide (37-45 cm).
  • Thrives in well-drained soils in full sun to light shade. Drought tolerant once established.
  • Lovely in beds and borders, cottage gardens, rock gardens and containers. To achieve an impressive visual effect, plant in clusters.
  • Attracts butterflies and bees, but deer ignore it!
  • Generally pest and disease free. Keep an eye out for slugs and snails or downy mildew.
  • Cut back after flowering or merely remove dead flowerheads.
