Corydalis 'Blackberry Wine' (Fumewort)

Fumewort 'Blackberry Wine', Fumitory 'Blackberry Wine'

Corydalis 'Blackberry Wine' (Fumewort) is a low-growing, spreading perennial forming an attractive mat of lacy, blue-green leaves. From early summer to fall, attractive racemes of fragrant, blackberry wine, tubular flowers are produced on short, upright stems above the foliage, creating a remarkable contrast. Easy to grow, this Fumewort does not go summer dormant and keeps its handsome foliage lush and fresh until fall. It has only a short downtime in late summer before blooming again in the fall. Tolerates heat and humidity. Perfect for the shade garden, moist banks, or as a groundcover.

  • Grows in clumps, 10-12 in. tall (25-30 cm) and 24 in. wide (60 cm). Flowers are sterile, so self-seeding is not an issue
  • Best in part shade, in moderately fertile, evenly moist, well-drained soils. Tolerates full shade. Dislikes summer drought.
  • Virtually disease free. Watch for snails and slugs.
  • A great perennial plant for beds and borders, cottage gardens, rock gardens, or woodlands. Great as a groundcover too!
  • Propagate by division in autumn
