Creating a focal point in the landscape, Cryptomeria japonica ‘Sekkan-sugi’ (Japanese Cedar) is a small, conical evergreen conifer adorned with semi-pendulous branches bearing soft, awl-shaped leaves. The foliage is tipped creamy yellow and is most intense when the new growth emerges in spring and early summer. Then it fades to dark green in the heat of the summer. Cones do form on this Japanese Cedar. They are crinkled brown and hang from the ends of the branches in the fall. A fast grower, 12-14 in. per year (30-35 cm), this Golden Japanese Cedar makes an elegant specimen tree.
