Heuchera 'Silver Gumdrop' (Coral Bells)
Coral Bells 'Silver Gumdrop', Alum Root 'Silver Gumdrop', Coral Flower 'Silver Gumdrop', Dolce Series
Heuchera 'Silver Gumdrop' (Coral Bells) is a compact evergreen perennial sporting a lovely foliage of semi-glossy, silver, iridescent leaves adorned with a rosy blush overtone later in the season. The petite size of this coral bells selection makes it perfect for a container. It combines extremely well with a wide range of colors and helps create wonderful plant combinations in gardens or pots. Silver Gumdrop is a Heuchera villosa hybrid. Native to the southeastern United States, Heuchera villosa is noted for its tolerance of high heat and humidity over the other species.
- In midsummer, masses of small, bell-shaped, vibrant pink flowers bloom on dark stems rising up to 24 in. (60 cm) above the evergreen foliage.
- This clump-forming perennial forms a basal mound, up to 6-8 in. tall (15-20 cm) with a spread of 14-16 in. (35-40 cm). This sturdy performer is not only easy to grow, but it also requires little maintenance and is virtually pest and disease free!
- Performs best in part shade, in rich, humusy, medium moisture, well-drained soils. If grown in full sun, make sure the soil remains consistently moist or the foliage might decline. Salt tolerant.
- It is attractive to bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.
- A spectacular addition to beds and borders, rock gardens, woodland gardens and is ideal as a groundcover, edger along paths or in containers. Fabulous when planted in groups!
- Divide clumps in spring every 3-4 years.
- Remove stems of faded flowers to promote additional bloom. Apply winter mulch after the ground freezes to help prevent root heaving.
