Abies - Firs
Native to high altitudes in cold and temperate climates, Abies (Firs) are evergreen conifers, often very tall, with whorled branches bearing long, flattened needles often white underneath. Raised like candles, large pale green cones with a purple cast adorn the upper branches. Stately and splendid, Firs do best in full sun but tolerate filtered sunlight. Easy to grow, they thrive in rich, moist, slightly acidic, well-drained soils, but some adapt to heat, drought. They all are fabulous additions to the landscape.
