Musa - Bananas

Focal points of containers and summer beddings, Musa (Banana) are fast-growing, suckering evergreen perennials with spectacular-looking, paddle-shaped leaves whose stalk-bases form a false stem (pseudostem). Yellow flowers with showy, red to purple bracts appear in summer, followed by fruits. Some banana species are incredibly hardy (Musa basjoo), others very ornamental with their pink bananas (Musa velutina) or long-lasting brilliant flowers (Musa coccinea). All are bold and attention-grabbing.
