Summer - The Best Plants to Grow in Your Garden

Gardening in the summer can be both rewarding and challenging, but choosing the right plants is key to success.

Consider Black-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta), an easy-to-grow perennial that loves the sun and provides vibrant yellow flowers. The Coneflower (Echinacea) is another great choice for summer, with its long-lasting blooms that attract pollinators and come in a variety of colors.

For an impressive show of flowers, nothing beats Hydrangeas. They enjoy partial shade and keep blooming throughout the summer. Daylilies (Hemerocallis) are a versatile summer staple, thriving in various conditions and offering a range of colors.

For something different, try Russian Sage (Perovskia atriplicifolia), which delivers a beautiful cloud of lavender-blue flowers above silvery foliage. Lavender is another summer favorite, loved for its scent, color, and heat and drought resistance.

Salvias, with their long blooming period and attraction to hummingbirds, are perfect for summer gardens. Yarrow (Achillea) is an exceptional plant for hot, dry summers and poor soils.

For summer greenery, consider ferns, which thrive in shady, damp spots. Ornamental grasses, like Fountain grass (Pennisetum) and Maiden grass (Miscanthus), also stand out in the summer, providing movement and texture.

Lastly, don’t forget about summer vegetables like tomatoes, cucumbers, and zucchini. They need a sunny spot and regular watering but will reward you with fresh produce all summer long.
