Amaryllis ‘Royal Velvet’ (Hippeastrum)

Hippeastrum 'Royal Velvet', Royal Velvet Amaryllis, Galaxy Group

AGM Award
Amaryllis Royal Velvet, 'Royal Velvet' Amaryllis, Amarylis Bulbs, Hippeastrum Royal Velvet, Hippeastrum Bulbs, Red Flowers

With one of the largest flowers, award-winning Amaryllis ‘Royal Velvet’ will surely draw the attention of all! Up to 9 in. wide (22 cm), the flowers are far from being flashy or gaudy as a result of their distinctive and elegant dark burgundy red color. Arising 4 per stem on sturdy and long-lasting plants, they will succeed in bringing their glamour to help take the gray chill out of the dead of winter!

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society
  • Elegantly rising up to 24 in. (60 cm), each bulb usually produces 2-3 stems and 4 flowers per stem and blooms 6-8 weeks after planting. The bigger the bulb, the more chance it will produce more flower stems with several flowers to a stem.
  • Incredibly easy to plant and nearly foolproof to grow, it provides weeks and even months of bloom indoors as potted plants or cut flowers. What more could you want?
  • Since the flowers do not bloom simultaneously, the overall flowering period lasts a reasonably long time.
  • Hardy to USDA zones 8-11, Amaryllis bulbs may be planted outdoors (deep South only). They will bloom in late spring – early summer and may be used in rock gardens or garden beds amongst groundcovers or perennials.
  • The nice thing about forcing Amaryllis bulbs into flower in the home is that it is so simple. Moreover, once the bulbs have flowered, they can be stored and brought into bloom again.
  • Ingestion may cause stomach upset.
  • Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
