Anemone nemorosa 'Alba' (Wood Anemone) is a dwarf, mat-forming, rhizomatous herbaceous perennial producing a profusion of single, pure white flowers with pale yellow centers from early to late spring. Borne on short upright stems, they rise above the foliage of dark green palmate leaves divided into three lobes. This anemone spreads by branched and creeping rhizomes to form a showy floral carpet in shaded areas.
- Rising up to 4 in. tall (10 cm) and 12 in. wide (30 cm), this Anemone naturalizes well and will gradually spread into colorful colonies. It will go dormant as temperatures rise in summer
- On a gray day, the flowers remain closed and hang their heads, but when the sun shines, the blossoms are held aloft, fully open, and follow the sun's course across the sky.
- Easily grown in humus-rich, fertile, moist, slightly acidic, well-drained soils in part shade. Keep the soil moist during the growing season. Once established, this plant has some drought tolerance while dormant.
- Undemanding and virtually pest-free and disease-free, this Anemone is a welcomed addition to borders, under trees and large shrubs, rock gardens or in woodlands. For best visual impact, plant en masse.
- To be planted in fall.
- Propagate by seed or by division when the foliage has died back.
- Anemone nemorosa species is native to Europe.
- Contact with sap may irritate skin
