Anemone x lipsiensis (Yellow Wood Anemone) is a mat-forming, rhizomatous perennial bearing a profusion of single, primrose-yellow flowers with bright yellow stamens in spring. Borne on short upright stems, the blossoms rise above the foliage of deeply cut leaves with long leaflets. This Anemone is a natural cross between the rich yellow Anemone ranunculoides (Yellow Wood Anemone) and white Anemone nemorosa (Wood Anemone). Vigorous, it spreads by creeping rhizomes to form a showy floral carpet in shaded areas.

  • Grows up to 4-6 in. tall (10-15 cm) and 12-18 in. wide (30-45 cm). This Anemone naturalizes well and will gradually spread into colorful colonies. It will go dormant as temperatures rise in summer
  • Performs best in humus-rich, fertile, moist, well-drained soils in part shade. Keep the soil moist during the growing season. Once established, this plant has some drought tolerance while dormant.
  • This Anemone is a welcomed addition to beds and borders, rock gardens, cottage gardens, banks and slopes, woodland gardens. Great for edging or as a groundcover.
  • No serious pest or disease issues. Deer resistant.
  • Propagation: Separate the rhizomes in early summer when the foliage has died back.
