Anemone nemorosa ‘Vestal’ (Wood Anemone)

Resembling a perfect powder puff, award-winning Anemone nemorosa ‘Vestal’ (Wood Anemone) is a charming herbaceous perennial producing a profusion of pure white flowers with 6-7 petals surrounding a cute dome-shaped center packed with narrow staminodes. Reliably covering itself in flower, its fully double blooms last longer than all the single varieties. Borne on short upright stems, they rise above a deeply, finely cut, dark green foliage. Blooming in early to late spring, this Anemone spreads by branched and creeping rhizomes to form an impressive carpet in shaded areas.

• Rising up to 6-8 in. tall and wide (15-20 cm), this Anemone naturalizes well and will gradually spread into colorful colonies. It will go dormant as temperatures rise in summer.
• On a gray day, the flowers remain closed and hang their heads, but when the sun shines, the blossoms are held aloft, fully open, and follow the sun’s course across the sky.
• Easily grown in humus-rich, fertile, moist, slightly acidic, well-drained soils in part shade. Keep the soil moist during the growing season. Once established, this plant has some drought tolerance while dormant.
• Undemanding, virtually pest-free, and disease-free, this Anemone is a welcomed addition to borders, under trees and large shrubs, in rock gardens, or in woodlands. For the best visual impact, plant en masse.
