Aquilegia caerulea Kirigami Deep Blue & White (Columbine)
Columbine Kirigami Deep Blue & White, Granny's Bonnet Kirigami Deep Blue & White, Monk's Head Lily Kirigami Deep Blue & White
Aquilegia caerulea Kirigami Deep Blue & White (Columbine) is a charming herbaceous perennial boasting a profusion of long-spurred, dark indigo blue and white flowers. Blooming profusely in late spring to early summer, the blossoms are upward facing, for a perfect display, and rise elegantly above the deeply-cut green foliage. This columbine is a vigorous performer with sturdy upright stems and a bushy habit. Excellent for both the landscape and containers. As an added bonus, the flowers will last well in cut arrangements.
- Grows up to 22-24 in. tall (55-60 cm) and 16-20 in. wide (40-50 cm).
- Performs best in full sun to part shade, in loose, average to rich, moist, well-drained soils. Seriously dislikes poorly drained soils! Rich, moist soils in part shade are preferred. Salt tolerant.
- Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies, but it is rabbit resistant.
- Easy to grow, this plant is a welcomed addition to beds, borders, cottage gardens, shade gardens or naturalized areas. Excellent cut flowers lasting up to 2 weeks in a vase.
- Susceptible to leaf miner.
- Propagate by sowing named seed rather than by division. Mature plants do not like to be disturbed.
- Remove faded flowering stems to promote additional bloom. Cut to the ground when the foliage declines (around midsummer).
- Contact with the sap may irritate the skin
