A Pretty Planting Combination with Alliums, Poppies and Columbines

Perennial Combinations, Plant Combinations, Prairie Planting Ideas, Summer Borders, Spring Borders

This lovely plant combination is rich in many exciting contrasts in colors and shapes. Popping up from the flowerbed like so many out-stretched ostrich necks are the tall and elegant flower spikes of Verbascum 'Caribbean Crush' (Mullein) and the dense white puffball flower umbels of Allium 'Mont Blanc'. They both excel in the garden as elegant vertical accents with architectural interest.

They mingle beautifully with the delicate airy blooms of Anthriscus sylvestris 'Ravenswing' (Cow Parsley) and emerge together from a black sea where the chocolate-purple, ferny foliage of 'Ravenswing' and the terrific Aquilegia vulgaris var. stellata 'Black Barlow' (Columbine) are the star performers.

Blooming from late spring to early summer, this ensemble is easy to replicate at home. There is no possible way to get tired of this rich and intriguing mix of texture and colors.
