Caladium 'Carolyn Whorton' (Angel Wings)

Angel Wings 'Carolyn Whorton', Carolyn Whorton Caladium, Fancy-Leafed Caladium

Prized for its vividly colored leaves, Caladium 'Carolyn Whorton' (Angel Wings) is a tuberous perennial with large, heart-shaped, pink leaves adorned with red veining and dark green margins. Inconspicuous, calla-type flowers appear in summer, but they are usually hidden by the leaves. A real workhorse, this fancy-leafed Caladium is more sun tolerant than most Caladiums and ideal to brighten borders and containers. It also makes an excellent houseplant.

  • Grows up to 18-24 in. high and wide (45-60 cm).
  • Performs best in part shade to full shade, in humusy, moist, well-drained soils. Avoid direct sun or the leaves may scorch. Provide regular moisture and do not allow soils to dry out.
  • Excellent in shaded beds and borders or containers.
  • Generally disease and pest free, this plant requires little maintenance. Watch for slugs and snails.
  • Tubers may be left in the ground in mild winter climates (USDA Zones 9-11). In colder areas, dig the tubers in fall before the first frost and store them in a cool, dry place over winter.
  • To be planted in spring. Caladiums require warm soil to emerge and thrive.
