Very attractive, Crassula arborescens (Silver Jade Plant) is a small, heavily branched, evergreen shrub boasting fleshy, disc-shaped, silver-gray leaves adorned with reddish spots and often with reddish edges. The tip's coloration is more intense in full sun. Clusters of small starry white flowers, aging to pink, sometimes bloom in spring or summer, but they are quite rare in cultivation. Silver Jade Plant makes a very pretty bushy shrub. As it ages, the stout gray trunk and sturdy limbs become massive and thick and take on the appearance of a miniature tree. A great choice for rock gardens or containers.
- Grows up to 4-5 ft. tall and wide (120-150 cm).
- Thrives in average to poor, rocky or sandy, dry, well-drained soils in full sun or light shade. Requires little irrigation and readily survives on modest rainfall alone. Excessive moisture will cause root and stem rot, particularly if the soil is not fast draining. This succulent is drought tolerant.
- Perfect for rock gardens, succulent gardens, Mediterranean gardens, and in containers.
- Deer resistant
- Propagate by seed or stem or leaf cuttings.
- Virtually disease free. Watch for mealybugs, vine weevil, and aphids.
- Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
- Native to South Africa
