Agave desmetiana 'Variegata'
Variegated Smooth Agave, Agave regeliana, Agave miradorensis, Agave desmettiana, Variegated Dwarf Agave
Graceful and upright, Agave desmetiana 'Variegata' is an evergreen succulent perennial which produces urn-shaped rosettes of elegantly curved, bright green leaves with bright golden-yellow edges and a terminal reddish-brown spine. A few tiny teeth adorn the leaf's margins. This Agave rarely flowers. Fast-growing, it often produces many offsets. A fabulous Agave that makes a dramatic focal point and can be used in decorative pots.
- Grows up to 2-3 ft. tall (60-90 cm) and 3-4 ft. wide (90-120 cm).
- Easily grown in slightly acidic, sandy or gravelly, moist or dry, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerates part shade, particularly in hot desert gardens where light shade will prevent scorching of the foliage. Keep in a frost-free area in winter and put it out on the patio or balcony in summer. Irrigate little or regularly for more vigor. Drought tolerant.
- Great for beds and borders, city gardens, coastal gardens, rock gardens, succulent gardens, or Mediterranean gardens. Ideal as an accent plant in sunny borders or in decorative containers.
- Deer resistant
- Virtually disease free. Watch for slugs and snails.
