Inula britannica (Meadow Fleabane)

Native to Europe and Asia, Inula britannica (Meadow Fleabane) is a rhizomatous, herbaceous biennial or perennial boasting bright yellow daisy flowers, 1 in. across (2.5 cm), from early summer to early fall. Usually clustered in groups of 2-3 flowers, each flower features a dark center disc surrounded by scraggly yellow rays. They are borne above a basal foliage of smooth to finely-toothed, elliptical leaves, 6 in. long (15 cm). In 2010, Inula britannica was added to the Federal Noxious Weed List which prohibits the importation or movement of any listed noxious weed into or through the United States.

  • Grows up to 12-30 in. tall (30-75 cm) and 1-2 ft. wide (30-60 cm). This plant spreadS aggressively by seeds, rhizomes or root fragments.
  • Enjoys full sun or part shade in deep, rich, moist well-drained soils.
  • Generally pest and disease free.
