Dense and fast spreading, Veronica ‘Tidal Pool’ is a low-growing evergreen perennial forming a brightly colored mat of small, rich blue-violet flowers adorned with pearly-white eyes from mid to late spring. Even when not smothered with flowers, this outstanding groundcover remains attractive the rest of the season thanks to its lush foliage of small, oak-like, silvery blue-green leaves. Resistant to cold, heat, humidity, rain, and drought, this hybrid speedwell results from a cross between Veronica armena and Veronica pectinata ‘Rosea’. It is ideal for a vibrant display in the spring garden. Use as a groundcover, edging plant, in the rock garden, or cascading over rocks or walls. Also, ideal for planting between flagstones. Developed by Dr. Jim Ault at Chicago Botanic Garden for Chicagoland Grows.

  • Grows up to 2-3 in. high (5-7 cm) and 24-30 in. wide (60-75 cm). This Veronica forms a low-maintenance ground cover that will suppress weeds once established. The plant will tolerate some light foot traffic.
  • Performs best in full sun, in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Drought and heat tolerant once established.
  • Easy to grow, this Speedwell is fairly pest and disease-free (some susceptibility to powdery mildews and downy mildews).
  • Can be propagated readily from cuttings or by division
