A Lovely Mediterranean Border with Erysimum, Artemisia and Calamintha

Plant Combinations, Summer Borders, Patio Gardens

Garden Ideas, Landscaping ideas, Artemisia ‘Powis Castle’, Santonina pinnata subs. neapolitana, Cistus purpureus, Rosmarinus officinalis Rostratus, Phlomis fruticosa, Erysimum ‘Bowles Mauve', Calamintha nepeta

Packed with deer and drought resistant plants, this Mediterranean raised bed is a delight in terms of fragrance, color and texture. At the foot of an old gnarled olive tree are easy to grow perennials and shrubs offering a very long season of interest extending from spring to fall.

Among them are the highly colorful Erysimum ‘Bowles’s Mauve’ (Wallflower), the particularly showy Cistus purpureus (Purple-Flowered Rock Rose) and the architectural  Phlomis fruticosa (Jerusalem Sage).

Foliage interest and delicious fragrance are generously contributed by the lacy foliage of Artemisia ‘Powis Castle’, the gray-green leaves of Calamintha nepeta (Lesser Calamint), the low-growing Rosmarinus officinalis Prostratus (Creeping Rosemary) or the feathery leaves of Santolina pinnata subsp. nepolitana (Green Santolina).

A relatively low care garden idea for months of pleasure!
