Caladium 'Candidum Junior' (Angel Wings)

Angel Wings 'Candidum Junior', Candidum Junior Caladium, Fancy-Leafed Caladium

A dwarf version of the popular Candidum, Caladium 'Candidum Junior' (Angel Wings) is a tuberous perennial with cute and tidy, heart-shaped, white leaves adorned with striking dark green veins. Inconspicuous, calla-type flowers appear in summer, but they are usually hidden by the leaves. Unlike most Caladiums, Candidum Junior does not stand upright, making it perfect for groundcover planting under trees and shrubs.

  • Grows up to 10-14 in. high and wide (25-35 cm).
  • Performs best in part shade to full shade, in humusy, moist, well-drained soils. Avoid direct sun or the leaves may scorch. Provide regular moisture and do not allow soils to dry out.
  • Excellent in shaded beds and borders or containers.
  • Generally disease and pest free, this plant requires little maintenance. Watch for slugs and snails.
  • Tubers may be left in the ground in mild winter climates (USDA Zones 9-11). In colder areas, dig the tubers in fall before the first frost and store them in a cool, dry place over winter.
  • To be planted in spring. Caladiums require warm soil to emerge and thrive.
  • Harmful if eaten, skin and eye irritant. Wear gloves and other protective equipment when handling.
  • Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
