Canna 'South Pacific Orange' (Canna Lily)
Canna Lily 'South Pacific Orange', Canna x generalis 'South Pacific Orange', South Pacific Series
Grown from seed, not tuber, award-winner Canna 'South Pacific Orange' is a vigorous, compact canna variety boasting large and showy, 4 in. soft glowing orange flowers (10 cm) that bloom non-stop all summer long. They are produced on flower spikes, up to 6-7 per plant, which rise above the lush foliage of large, lance-shaped, green leaves. Compact in habit, well branched and sturdy, this very floriferous canna lily is not prone to diseases and is well suited for garden borders, mixed containers, pots, and shallow areas of water gardens. Perfect to add a touch of the tropics to your garden!
- 2018 All America Selection (AAS) Winner
- Grows up to 52 in. tall (130 cm) and 24 in. wide (60 cm)
- Performs best in full sun in organically rich, moist and well-drained soils.
- Canna Lilies look at their best when massed along walls or hedges or in garden beds where they proudly stand out. Spectacular on a patio, they are well suited to container growing.
- Canna is a perennial but can be treated as an annual by northern gardeners who do not want to dig rhizomes before the frost and store them indoors for the winter.
- Seeds should be sown indoors in mid- to late February in a growing medium. Lightly cover the seeds and water. Maintain a temperature of 68 to 77°F. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots. Plant outdoors after the danger of frost is past. Length of time from sowing seed to flower: 11-12 weeks
- Cannas are largely free of pests but in the USA, special care has to be provided to protect their leaves from the damage eventually caused by the Canna Leaf Roller. Keep an eye out for Japanese beetles, caterpillars, slugs and snails which may chew on the foliage.
- Deadhead Cannas throughout the growing season to keep them blooming for as long as possible.
