Cotyledon orbiculata var. oblonga ‘Macrantha’ is an evergreen, succulent shrub with fleshy, rounded, paddle-shaped, green leaves adorned with a thin red-wine line around their edges. Attractive when not blooming, Cotyledon orbiculata is particularly striking in late winter to early spring when a 2 ft. stem (60 cm), arises from its center, bearing clusters of showy, coral-red, bell-shaped flowers.

  • Grows up to 2-3 ft. tall and wide (60-90 cm). This plant spreads by offsets.
  • Easily grown in well-drained soils in full sun to light shade. Provide low humidity. Water freely when in growth and keep just moist at other times. Drought tolerant.
  • Protect from ants that colonize the plant with aphids. Watch for mealybugs and vine weevil.
  • Excellent for coastal gardens, succulent gardens or Mediterranean gardens. Perfect for containers where spectacular floral arrangements can be created.
  • Native to South Africa
