Quite unique, Dianthus barbatus ‘Green Ball’ (Sweet William) produces perfectly round, fuzzy, ball-shaped, lime green flowers, up to 3 in. across (7 cm), in late spring and summer. The vivid blossoms rise on stiff, erect stems clad with long, glossy, dark green leaves. This hardy annual or short-lived perennial is a charming addition to beds and containers. It is prized by florists, thanks to its long vase life (up to two weeks), and can even be dried to last longer.

  • Growing up to 10-14 in. tall (25-35 cm) and 8-12 in. wide (20-30 cm)
  • Thrives in full sun in organically rich, well-drained soils. Appreciates some afternoon shade in hot summer climates.
  • Excellent choice for beds and borders, cottage gardens or containers.
  • Sow seeds in spring for bloom the following year.
  • Deadhead as required. Propagate by seed sown in late spring and plant out into flowering positions in the fall
  • Susceptible to crown rot and rust in poorly-drained soils. Watch for snails and slugs.
  • Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
