Fast-growing and easy to grow, Encelia actoni (Acton Encelia) is a much-branched shrub with slender stems bearing alternate, gray-green, triangular to ovate leaves, 2 in. long (5 cm). Profuse daisy-like flowers with 14-25 bright yellow rays surrounding darker center disks are borne singly at the ends of the stems from early spring to mid-summer. Rich in nectar, they attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Handling cold, sun, and wind, Acton Encelia is a good choice for mixed borders or perennial beds in water-wise gardens.

  • Grows up to 2-5 ft. tall (60-150 cm) and 3 ft. wide (90 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun, in sandy, well-drained soils. Very limited to no supplemental irrigation once established. Drought tolerant once established.
  • Great for water-wise gardens, wildlife gardens, and habitat restoration projects.
  • Generally pest and disease free.
  • Native to southern California, Nevada, and Baja California.
