Oxalis griffithii (Wood Sorrel) is a small perennial boasting slightly nodding, five-petaled, white flowers, 1-2 in. across (2-5 cm), with pale lilac veins over a long season. Blooming intermittently throughout the year, it may bloom all year if given enough light. The delicate blossoms are borne atop slender stems over the handsome basal foliage of silvery green, clove-like leaves. Easy to cultivate and maintain, this plant creeps underground via rhizomes eventually forming an attractive mat in the shade garden. Good choice for containers, woodland gardens, or indoors as a houseplant. Great as a groundcover in mild winter areas.

  • Grows up to 4-8 in. tall (10-20 cm) and 8-12 in. wide (20-30 cm).
  • Easily grown in light (sandy), medium (loamy), well-drained soils in bright light or part shade. Water regularly during the active growing season, but allow the surface soil to dry out between waterings.
  • Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
  • Native to China, Taiwan, Bhutan, India, Japan, Kashmir, Korea, N Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines.
