Candy Cane Sorrel, Striped-Flowered Wood Sorrel


Native to South Africa, Oxalis versicolor (Candy Cane Sorrel) is a charming bulbous perennial forming a dense mound of fresh green leaves composed of 3 narrow leaflets. Blooming from midsummer to fall, delicate white flowers, 1 in. across (2.5 cm), adorned with a crimson margin on the petal backs, appear above the handsome, clover-like foliage. Whether the flowers are fully open (which they only are in sunny weather) or in the bud, they are equally ornamental. Candy Cane Sorrel is a festive addition to borders, rock gardens and containers.
