Noted for its wonderful tricolor appearance, Sedum sieboldii ‘Mediovariegatum’ (October Daphne Stonecrop) is a low growing, semi-evergreen perennial with many seasons of interest. Forming a cascading mound, the plant sends out horizontal branches bearing whorls of rounded, powdery-blue leaves with conspicuous creamy-yellow centers. When the plant matures, the leaves take on a plum-red edge. In fall, clusters of rose pink, star-shaped flowers stand out against the foliage. Attractive in full flower, the plant is visited by scores of butterflies. Prized for its foliage color, drought tolerance and gorgeous fall display, October Daphne Stonecrop is a very versatile sedum. It can be used as an edging, in rock gardens, or tucked into cracks in a rock wall. It is also wonderful in containers where the foliage and flowers can be enjoyed throughout the season.

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society.
  • Grows up to 6-8 in. tall (15-20 cm) and 12-18 in. wide (30-45 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun to part shade, in poor to moderately fertile, alkaline to neutral, dry to moist, well-drained soils. Drought tolerant once established.
  • Perfect for rock gardens, containers, or along the edge of a raised bed or a wall.
  • No serious pest or disease issues. Keep an eye out for aphids, scale insects, mealybugs and vine weevil. Rabbit resistant.
  • Low maintenance, this Sedum forgives neglect!
  • Trim back after flowering to maintain shape.
  • Propagate by softwood cuttings of non-flowering shoots in early summer.
  • Sedum sieboldii species is native to Japan.
