Senecio confusus (Mexican Flame Vine)

Mexican Flame Vine, Orange Glow Vine, Pseudogynoxys chenopodioides, Senecio berlandieri


Pseudogynoxys chenopodioides (Mexican Flame Vine) is an attractive evergreen vine with fleshy, arrowhead-shaped leaves and large clusters of brilliant flowers over a long season. Blooming from late spring to fall (all year in mild winter areas), daisy-like, fiery orange-red flowers, adorned with golden centers, appear at the branch tips. Attractive to butterflies and bees, they gradually mature to red and give way to small dandelion-like puffs of seed. Perfect on trellis, cascading over walls or in hanging baskets. Formerly known as Senecio confusus.

  • Grows up to 6-12 ft. tall (180-360 cm) and 3-6 ft. wide (90-180 cm).
  • Easily grown in average, moist, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerates some light shade in hot summer climates. Drought tolerant.
  • Excellent for arbors, trellises and other garden structures. Good for hanging baskets.
  • Native from Mexico to Honduras.
  • Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
