Veronica 'Whitewater' (Prostrate Speedwell)

Prostrate Speedwell 'Whitewater', Creeping Speedwell 'Whitewater',

Low growing and durable, Veronica 'Whitewater' (Prostrate Speedwell) is a vigorous semi-evergreen perennial forming a dense carpet of small, glistening white flowers borne on creeping, wiry stems, over a long period from mid-spring to early summer. Even when not smothered with flowers, this outstanding plant remains attractive thanks to its lush foliage of small, lance-shaped, deep green, glossy leaves. The foliage turns from an attractive burgundy to bronze in the fall, further extending the season of interest of this Speedwell. Dense enough to suppress weeds, it is tough enough to tolerate some foot traffic. Ideal for a vibrant display in the spring garden, this Prostrate Speedwell is perfect for the rock garden, along paths, cascading over stone walls, or as a ground cover.

  • Grows up to 4-6 in. tall (10-15 cm) and 12-18 in. wide (30-45 cm).
  • Perfect choice for borders, edging, underplanting shrubs, city gardens, cottage gardens, rock gardens, or containers. Best when planted in groups.
  • Performs best in full sun, in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Tolerates light shade. Drought and heat tolerant once established.
  • Easy to grow, this Speedwell requires very low care and is fairly pest and disease-free (some susceptibility to powdery mildews and downy mildews). It is attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds but resistant to rabbits and deer.
