Cotula coronopifolia (Golden Buttons) is a creeping annual or short-lived perennial with cute yellow button daisies packed with up to 200 disc florets. Blooming in summer, they are borne on fleshy stems clad with simple or pinnatifid, aromatic leaves. Native to South Africa, Golden Buttons occurs naturally along edges of saline or freshwater pools. Cotula coronopifolia can be grown as a decorative plant around the pond’s edge, or in a container water garden.

  • Grows up to 6-10 in. tall (15-25 cm) and 12 in. wide (30 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun in moist soil at pond margins. Can be grown in water to 1 in. deep (2.5 cm). Appreciates some afternoon shade in hot summer areas.
  • A charming addition to pond areas, water gardens, bog gardens or wildlife gardens.
  • No serious pest or disease issues.
  • Deadhead regularly to promote more blooms.
  • Propagate by seed or by division in spring.
  • Native to South Africa.
