A very distinctive species, Crocus fleischeri is a cormous perennial boasting star-shaped, shiny white flowers with slender petals and a striking, bright orange, branched stigma that overtops the anthers. The throat is variable in color, ranging from yellow, and orange, to brown and even blackish. Blooming in late winter to early spring, this elegant crocus species increases very well by offsets. It is a great choice for naturalizing, planted in drifts in the lawn or in clusters at the front of borders. Good for window boxes and patio containers. Native to Turkey and the Eastern Greek islands, Crocus fleischeri occurs naturally on open rocky slopes and sparse woodlands.

  • Growing up to 3-4 inches tall (5-7 cm), this beauty naturalizes easily and will come back year after year!
  • Easily grown in average, medium moisture, highly alkaline, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Water freely during the growing season. Keep completely dry in summer dormancy
  • Perfect in beds and borders, banks and slopes, Mediterranean gardens, rock gardens, cottage gardens, or containers.
  • To be planted in fall.
  • Crocus fleischeri is native from the eastern Aegean Islands to western and southwestern Turkey.
