Corymbia citriodora (Lemon-Scented Gum)

Lemon-Scented Gum, Citron-Scented Gum, Lemon-Scented Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus citriodora

Corymbia citriodora (Lemon-Scented Gum) is a tall evergreen tree of upright habit, adorned with a straight trunk and a thin, graceful crown of drooping foliage. The lemon-scented foliage is narrow, lance-shaped, golden-green, 3-7 in. long (7-17 cm), and used to produce citronella oil, which is favored in perfumery. Another ornamental feature is its striking bark - smooth, powdery white, sometimes with a blush of pink or blue. In winter, abundant clusters of white flowers are borne amongst the foliage. Long-lived, this Eucalyptus makes an attractive narrow tree, revealing its presence in gardens or streets by the wonderful fragrance of its leaves.

  • Grows up to 40-100 ft. tall (12-30 m) and 15-50 ft. wide (4-15 m).
  • Performs best in full sun in medium moisture, well-drained soils. Drought tolerant.
  • Easy to grow, easy to care for. Deer resistant.
  • Watch for eucalyptus sucker, silver leaf and oedema.
  • Propagate by seed.
  • Native to Northeastern Australia.
