Fuchsia 'Tom West'
Hanging Baskets and Pots, Standard Fuchsia, Summer Bedding
A very versatile Fuchsia cultivar, award-winning Fuchsia 'Tom West' is a vigorous, upright, deciduous shrub noted for its striking variegated foliage and pretty flowers. The green leaves are beautifully striped with cream and adorned with cerise veins and stems. They become redder in the sun, creating an eye-catching display before the flowers appear. Blooming from early summer to fall, a profusion of small to medium size, single flowers clamor for our attention, with their carmine tubes and sepals, and purple corollas. Attractive to bees and hummingbirds, this fairly hardy Fuchsia features a lax growth and is a superb choice for hanging baskets, containers or summer bedding displays. A deservedly popular cultivar.
- Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society.
- Grows up to 24 in. tall and wide (60 cm).
- A full sun to part shade lover, this plant is best grown in moist, fertile, well-drained soils. Provide a deep winter mulch and shelter from cold drying winds. Protect from the afternoon sun in hot climates.
- Perfect for summer bedding, rock gardens, hanging baskets, containers.
- In early to mid-spring cut back the previous year's flowering stems to within one or two buds of the older woody framework. Also remove any thin, weak or dead growth.
- Stem cuttings are by far the easiest way of propagating fuchsias.
- Watch for rust, capsid bug and caterpillars.
