Fuchsia 'Wicked Queen' (Hardy Fuchsia)
Hardy Fuchsia 'Wicked Queen', 'Wicked Queen' Fuchsia
Floriferous, Fuchsia 'Wicked Queen' is a bushy, upright deciduous shrub with small, dark green, serrated foliage and showy flowers. Blooming from early summer until frost, the medium to large double flowers feature recurving red sepals surrounding a deep blue corolla, splashed with pink. Attractive to bees and hummingbirds, the showy blossoms hang with grace from the arching stems like porcelain drop earrings. Hardy, this flowering shrub is a great choice for the center of the mix border, and is equally suited to patio containers.
- Grows up to 28 in. tall and wide (70 cm).
- A full sun to part shade lover, this plant is best grown in moist, fertile, well-drained soils. Provide a deep winter mulch and shelter from cold drying winds.
- Plant as a specimen or in small groups. Perfect for beds and borders, wall-side borders, cottage gardens or containers.
- In early to mid-spring cut back the previous year's flowering stems to within one or two buds of the older woody framework. Also remove any thin, weak or dead growth. This stimulates development of strong new growth on which flowers will be produced in late summer.
- Propagate by softwood or semi-hardwood cuttings
- Watch for rust, capsid bug and caterpillars.
