Highly popular, Juniperus communis ‘Hibernica’ (Irish Juniper) is a large, pillar-shaped evergreen shrub forming a splendid exclamation point in the landscape. Its dense and compact erect branches bear short, prickly, pale green needles adorned with a silver band, creating a lovely blue-green effect. They grow upwards and do not bend under a heavy snowfall. Introduced in 1838, this heirloom cultivar is ideal for providing year-round structure. Becoming broader and conical with age, it makes a wonderful specimen plant, adds accent vertical lines to the landscape. Perfect for hedges and windbreaks.

  • Winner of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society for its noteworthy qualities
  • Grows up to 5-15 ft. tall (150-450 cm) and 2-4 ft. wide (60-120 cm).
  • A full sun to part shade lover, this plant is easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Tolerates a wide range of soils including poor soils. Drought tolerant once established.
  • Perfect as a specimen plant, for foundation plantings, rock gardens, or containers.
  • Low maintenance, no pruning required.
  • Propagate by semi-hardwood cuttings
  • Native to the Northern Hemisphere.
