Lysimachia atropurpurea ‘Beaujolais’ (Purple Loosestrife) is a clump-forming, upright, and sturdy perennial boasting attractive deep wine-red flower spikes on long slender stems from late spring to early fall. The foliage is ornamental with its waxy rosettes of silver-green, narrow, wavy-edged leaves, up to 4 in. long (10 cm). Short-lived, this striking purple loosestrife works well in borders, rain gardens, and containers and makes excellent cut flowers.

  • Grows up to 16-20 in. tall (40-50 cm) and 14-16 in. wide (35-40 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun or part shade, in humus-rich, moist soils that do not dry out in summer.
  • Generally pest and disease free. Keep an eye out for snails and slugs.
  • Cut back after flowering. Propagate by division.
